Knightmare Live

Knightmare was my top favourite TV show during my early teens. Thursday afternoons, after double English. Win all round. I was therefore much excited to go see this new live version, performed by a group of comedians and actors, at The Playhouse. Also, for those who didn't know, Norwich is actually the spiritual home of Knightmare; it was filmed and created at the studios which are now Epic. Lord Fear and Treguard, the two main characters, were absolutely hilarious, mixing quite a bit of improvisation into the script, and Jessica Fostekew who played a witch as well as useless sidekick Pickle did an absolutely beautiful job. The dungeoneer was a young chap from the audience, Alan ("a warrior's name!") and his team was two chaps, also from Norwich, who were so clever and funny you'd have thought they were part of the troupe. The audience was packed out and laughed throughout, as well as joining in with the spell casting and screaming out directions en masse to poor Alan as he went along his quest. The set was cleverly designed, with a talking wall and a fantastic dragon. I definitely felt as though it was a realy love-in for the show, as it should be. There were references to other early 90's media stars like Pat Sharp and Neil Buchanan which tickled the audience greatly. The fact that the actors and comedians were clearly having such a great time, along with the audience, made for a really fun and fond evening. Come back soon, Knightmare!
