Lucy Porter

It was quite difficult for me not to fall immediately in love with Lucy as she graced the stage earlier this week; anyone brandishing the magical combination of comedy and free chocolate is a definite winner in my book! After a light hearted, humorous ‘getting to know you’ introduction the audience took part in a quiz about “Name the Famous People from Norwich” (there are hundreds, of course!) A correct answer got you Snickers bar lobbed over arm in your direction!

The remainder of the show contained everything from amusingly relatable stories about her husband and toddlers, anecdotes about penises washed in beakers and topics such as that friend that everyone has who they don’t actually like. On the other (slightly more high-brow) hand she brought to the stage an incredibly eloquent, well informed political commentary about 90’s Russia with a soundtrack to accompany it; it had us all in uproar!

Female comedians often get a bad rep for being overtly feminist one-trick ponies, but Lucy Porter most certainly operates outside this rule. Intellectual, witty, very cheerful and just a downright cool woman!
