Black Shuk - Inertia EP

Norwich’s Black Shuk have unleased the beast that is their new EP on the unsuspecting world. This band first hit my radar back in 2015, and at the time, if I’m honest, they seemed a little rough around the edges.

Two years on and the polish has certainly been applied. What you have here is a slab of indie funk rock with a great modern feel and infectious grooves courtesy of a rhythm section as tight as a duck’s arse.

Right from the off it’s blatantly obvious how hard these guys have been working on what fits them, and finding their own sound. They’re a well-oiled machine now, and a real force to be reckoned with. Broken Machine is a storming track, which is relentless in both pace and ferocity, while the slightly slower I Can’t Tell is a six minute epic full of screaming guitars and fuzz boxes.

Again, it’s hard to label these guys - with elements of blues thrown in for good measure they’re impossible to pigeonhole, but there is no denying their commitment and energy. Keep an eye out for this band because like their namesake, this legendary beast of Norfolk may just sneak up and bite you on the ass.
