Simon and Stuart met through a mutual friend and kept bumping into each other in a pub. They got chatting, they both obviously liked a wide range of music and both collected vinyl. Stuart was playing bass in MNOP STUV XYZA and asked Simon to do a DJ set as support at The Brickmakers. It went well. Stuart half joked about forming Weird Pancakes and after much cajoling managed to get a gig at the Plasterers on a Sunday afternoon. The plan was to each do 2 x 45 minute sets but they had trouble with the gear and decided to sit together and play records alternately. This was a masterstroke as combinations and segues were created which were much more than the sum of their parts. Since then Weird Pancakes have played at The Murderers, The Cottage, Playhouse Bar, Fat Cat Brewery Tap, Louis Marchesi and The Ribs of Beef. We are now looking for new venues in and around Norwich to spread the gospel of Weird! Their musical tastes are a bit “BBC Radio 6 Music” and include great music from the ‘fifties to the present day, sometimes crowd pleasers, sometimes weird, sometimes weirder.
