John Law (“One of the UK’s most imaginative and versatile jazz pianists!” International Piano Magazine 2014) presents his quartet project playing well known tunes from the world of jazz and pop, and occasionally also classical; featuring Parliamentary Jazz Award winner saxophonist - and local Norwich lad! - Sam Crockatt. Alongside reinvented classic jazz standards the quartet plays intriguing new arrangements of tunes by the Beatles, Sting, Radiohead, Adele, Paul Simon, Daft Punk, the Jam, Bon Iver and others, as well as the odd classical tune. So you might hear a baroque version of Summertime next to a drum n bass take on Satie’s Gymnopédie, a multi-layered, hypnotic arrangement of Over The Rainbow followed by a crazy, schizophrenic rendition of the Beatles’ Ob-La-Di, mixing up laid-back Latin with Free Jazz blowing! The concept is simple: some of the best known tunes in the world played really creatively, so audiences always feel part of the process and they know where they are, even when we get really crazy!
As well as the flowing, melodic invention of Sam Crockatt, the quartet features the exciting talents of the new generation: stunning musician James Agg on bass alongside the rhythmic grooving of Italian drummer Paolo Adamo.
