Who

Emily Winng is one quarter of Sargasso Trio. She’s been writing and attempting to record songs for as long as she can remember. She would use two of her dad’s old tape recorders, record onto one and then play that back while recording on the other. “I was always inspired by my dad singing and playing guitar in the bedroom after a few whiskeys (him, not me!)” She formed a band with her sister for a few years after leaving home; then she formed Norwich band Sargasso Trio along with  a couple of other friends, who have been together for over 10 years now. Deciding more recently to go solo with a little help from Iain Lowery (The Lost Levels), her strong and confident new songs can transport you to far flung places with lilting melodies and sweet layered harmonies, or swear at you with nothing but a tribal drum for backing. "I write about things I know and things I don't. I suffer from panic attacks so I have written about that. I also wrote a song called Jamaica. I've never been there".

Emily’s debut release is out now on Barn Recordings. It's a double A side, Lovesong and Tongue In Cheek and Fingers Crossed. Currently recording and planning to release more later this year on Meat Fer Manners label.
