Standing Tall

WHO?

Danny (drums), Tom (bass) and Blake (guitar and vocals) met five years ago at Access To Music; Matthew (guitar) is the newbie and together they make great alternative/emo/rock. Now signed to German record label No Panic, this month sees the release of an EP packed with epic tunes, a gig at the Waterfront and a UK tour alongside Fallow Fields.

WHAT?

Well, it’s very loud. But here's the thing; it’s subtle too. As you listen to the tracks you hear them change from fast and furious to slower melodic pieces. With each member having different influences, it helps explain the variety. The lyrics often come whilst they are playing, rather than writing them separately. Certainly the music is central to what this band are all about; lots of guitar harmonies with riffs and solos backed by drums that hold it all together. But don't ignore the vocals - you'll find yourself singing snatches of them days later.

LIVE?

Loads of energy and lots of sweat. Standing Tall have spent many nights sleeping on floors on tour. Emotional fellows, they talk openly and freely about how they feel about their music. Most of all, though, it's about enjoying themselves on stage and making sure they keep their audience interested through the music and the show itself. You can catch Standing Tall live on August 19th at The Owl Sanctuary and on the 21st at The Waterfront, to celebrate the release of their EP.

RELEASES?

Their five track self titled second EP, available on coloured vinyl or CD will be out on August 26th from No Panic Records. Their latest single Are You Really There? is a slice of pure power.

STANDING TALL GOSSIP

So much they couldn't even tell us. But they did tell us about the time in Coventry when they walked in to a surfboarding convention, won every prize in the raffle, then left. "They weren’t happy!" said Blake.

For a band that almost quit, they seem to have found purpose and direction, and hope success with the new EP will follow.
