The Early November

With only a very small and rather disappointing sized crowed, I expected big and exciting things to come of this show. The full lineup consisted of A Great Big Pile of Leaves, You Blew It! and The Early November. A Great Big Pile of Leaves started off the evening full of emo bangers. Their indie rock breeziness got the crowd and myself tapping our feet in rhythm with the simple high hat taps from drummer, Tyler Soucy and eloquent picking from guitarist, Pete Weiland.  At the start of their set the crowd were silent but eventually started singing along as the lads from A Great Big Pile of Leaves picked up the pace with ‘Flying Fish’ from their album.‘You’re Always on My Mind’. A Great Big Pile of Leaves coming all the way over to the UK was a huge and risky thing to do as they’re not hugely known overseas but in my opinion a successful and bold choice and I believe they brought in a lot of the crowd and gained themselves some fans. You Blew It! were next to please the crowd with their presence. They had previously visited Norwich  alongside Real Friends and Modern Baseball, two huge bands within this genre of music and most definitely were the obvious ‘smaller band’ at the time. You Blew It! have swiftly learnt to stand on their own two feet with an ever growing fan base especially with their article on Vice.com about their new EP, ‘Pioneer of Nothing’ and the changes that ‘emo’ music have been through recently. The day before this show at Epic Studios, I went to see You Blew It! perform at Soundclash Records in Norwich playing a small acoustic show to around 15-20 people and they killed it there. Although their in-store acoustic show was kick ass it cannot compare to their fun and always energetic performance at a major live show. I was anxious about seeing The Early November, dudes from New Jersey, but they 100% changed my mind during the show. I had only listened to them via record previously so I was really happy to have the honour to watch them play live.
