Chassol

The Adnams Spiegeltent is the most fantastic tent you’ll ever see. The exterior has the illusion of a giant tent and once inside you’ll see the reality of a theatre-come-club. You can take your pick of sitting in a booth, at a table, on the rows of seating, or just practice your coolest standing poses at the bar; there really is something to suit everyone. We’re here tonight to watch a screening of Indiamore, a kind of love-song to India, accompanied by visionary artist Chassol performing live music alongside. The lighting dims and just as mysteriously a French gentleman, Chassol himself, takes to the stage to a warm welcome…but then exits it. Audience members are left to view a darkened stage, a drum kit and keyboard silhouetted in the projector’s light as the film, Indiamore, begins. The five part collection of shorts presents scenes alive with music in India, with sequences of short looping clips shot and edited with a real panache. Don’t let the French subtitles put you off; before you’ve finished thinking “Why didn’t I pay more attention in French…or Indian class?” the live sound design, drum and keyboard jazz-amming will captivate and entrance you. “Music is god, my love”, and it’s even better with film. This is a must see!
