Bloodbound - Creatures Of The Dark Realm

I have to say, that I haven’t listened to a proper “power metal” album in a long time, so this was something a little nostalgic, even though it’s brand new. Leading you in is a short acoustic instrumental before all Hell breaks loose in the form of the title track, and from then on in, it’s a masterclass in how to be a power metal band. It’s seriously good.

First off, this album is a much more melodic affair than their previous material, in fact I’d go so far as to say that it’s pretty catchy. If I had to draw a comparison, I’d say Helloween and Manowar are a pretty good match, but there are a whole host of influences noticeable throughout the album and I’m positive that others might take something different away from it having listened to it.

One thing that’s immediately apparent though, is the quality of the songs, and of course the standard themes of power metal songs are in there. Fantasy, death, dragons and pretty much everything else you’d want from this genre.

This genre is a highly contested one, with bands like Powerwolf and Sabaton paving the way ahead of everyone else, but you can be sure that Bloodbound are snapping at their heels, and with an album this good, they have a legitimate claim to the iron throne (it’s made of heavy metal, duh).

Are you a fan of power metal? If the answer to that is yes, then you need to buy this album as soon as it’s available. If the answer is no, then buy or listen to it anyway, and you might find your mind changed, who knows? One thing’s for sure though, it’s as good as any album from this genre I’ve listened to in a long time, if not better than some. Don’t take my word for it though, just go out and get it!
