Bobby Funk - Avocado Stains

Bobby Funk are a four piece from Falmouth who deliver a fine line in hardcore punk band. Coming on a shaped picture disc in the guise of an avocado (obvs), there’s nothing here that hasn’t been done before but, with a hint of Stupids humour in the lyrics, this is done very well. 

All five songs are decent slices of punk but, like Wonk Unit, the sound isn’t limited to three chord buzzsaw guitar. There’s a dub break and closer Sick Helmet is power-pop with horns and a marimba. 

Highlight is undoubtedly Johnny Wanker. Consisting of gloriously numbskull rock with one member of the band shouting out Johnny Depp characters and films titles and the rest of the band bellowing wanker back over the top, it is neither big nor clever but is both funny and bloody good fun. Stathams of the Crass, referencing to Jason Statham and Crass is almost as much fun.

This will look and sound good in anyone’s collection!
