Dinosaur Pile-Up- Nature Nurture (Friends vs Records)
After their under-the-radar but successful first album, Dinosaur Pile-Up are back with ‘Nature Nurture’ and with it are dragging 90’s style grunge into 2013 with a bang. After initially releasing a free download ‘Lip Hook Kiss’ track (a moments holla! for free download becoming the cool thing to do!), a certain hype has been surrounding the May release of this album. With Weezer style riffs and front-man Matt Bigland’s slight Cobain style vocals make you all misty-eyed about the good ol’ post punk era of 2001. First track ‘Arizona Waiting’ explodes with heavy guitar, Blink 182 style vocals, catchy lyrics (everyone with me- “Scream at my reflection!”) and it doesn’t stop there ladies and gents! Each track is a banger, ‘Summer Gurl’ is like an updated version of ‘Song 2’ by Blur, right down to title track ‘Nature Nurture’ that sounds like a male vocal Band Of Skulls jam - which isn't surprising as bearded Ian Davenport from BOS helped record the album! Overall this album screams ‘THE GOOD MUSIC IS BACK!’ and also kinda sorta sounds like fictional band Sex Bob-omb from the Scott Pilgrim film, which is definitely not a bad thing. Now if you’re pleased that the likes of Blink 182, Weezer and such have stopped releasing their musical gold, then this album isn't for you. But if, like me, you almost cried with happiness that Fall Out Boy are back and know all the words to ‘Miss You’, three cheers to Dinosaur Pile-Up! Yay!
