Gorgon City

Gorgon City sit in the impressive position of dominating both mainstream charts and more underground rave scenes alike. Having said that I think the majority of the crowd would’ve been happier with a midnight set time and warehouse setting. Nevertheless, Gorgon City brought a serious feel-good vibe to the LCR, rolling through hit after hit for an eagerly bopping audience. The show was fronted by a combination of a lead male and female, both with excellent voices, great stage presence and a glowing chemistry when on stage together. Gorgon City themselves felt slightly rigid behind their respective decks at times, and could’ve done with just letting loose a little bit more. However, the songs carried themselves with dancefloor bangers Right Here and Zoom Zoom driving shuffle break-outs and belting sing-alongs all round.

Other highlights included a remix of Drake’s One Dance turned even more tropical (yes, I didn’t think that was possible either), and new single Smile which saw featured vocalist Elderbrook join the stage.

Overall, Gorgon City threw a serious party, their thumping mix of techno and pop-inspired house delivering a relaxed but immensely fun atmosphere. My only complaint is that I wanted a little something more from the performance as a whole. If Gorgon City can just step their live performance up another notch, and really nail the production dance music needs to take it from the clubs and get it on stage, it’s easy to imagine them following the likes of dance giants Disclosure and Major Lazer onto big festival headline spots in the future.
