Hockey Dad's second album is a feel-good bundle of surf-punk that takes a bit of Australian sunshine wherever it goes. Every track glistens with smoother than smooth vocals and plethoric warmth.
Jump the Gun has that foot-tapping, breezy quality found in the best surf-inspired music, with a dainty, care-free guitar riff to match. Hunny Bunny delivers more golden guitar work and pumping drums which would maybe be suited to a more masculine hook, but the cheesiness of the phrase does compliment the albums totally laid-back feel. Hockey Dad bring a beautifully pensive vibe to Two Forever, winding up a more thoughtful feel before launching back into the rumbling instrumental Grange to finish the album.
Boronia is the perfect album for hazy summer days spent in splendid relaxation, but that won't stop you listening to it all year round.
