Release Date: 4th June 2012 Kaiser Chiefs - Souvenir: The Singles 2004-2012 (Fiction/B-Unique Records) Listening to ‘Souvenir’ is like sitting in your favourite bar with Ricky Wilson and the rest of the Leeds likely lads, reminiscing about the good times like "Do you remember ‘Oh My God?’" and "Remember that time we released ‘I Predict A Riot!'?’’. The track list isn't a chronological path through the band's impressive musical CV, but instead each memorable track flows like this album was always supposed to be. The beginning being heavily influenced with the ‘broken Britain’ themed hits such as ‘The Angry Mob’, ‘I Predict a Riot’ and ‘Everything is Average Nowadays’ which, despite being released circa 2004/05, sound scarily relevant owing to the riots last summer. New release ‘Listen to Your Head’ is a Gary-Newman-esque tune; the synth and repeated chorus are slow but memorable and ‘On the Run’ is equally as synthy but has a lot more bass. Both definite future hits carry on the styles first seen in album, ‘The Future is Medieval’ released in 2011 from the boys. Of course there’s the songs we’ve all heard before, know all the words to but forgot about. ‘Never Miss a Beat’, ‘Ruby’ and ‘Little Shocks’ sound somehow so much better on this album and each track was like greeting an old friend with open arms that you haven’t seen in years. With a massive US tour underway and rising success in the states, I am genuinely ecstatic to see that it looks like the Kaiser Chiefs, one of Britain's biggest pop/punk revival band success stories aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. 10/10 Freja Hoskins
