Leon O’Leary - Mysabar Festival

Playing to an audience is always a fascinating thing. You never know quite what you’re in for, the crowd might love you, they might be passive, they might even ignored you. Happily for Bury St Edmunds based Leon O’Leary there was a lot of love to be found.

An early afternoon in the slight damp setting did not distract from the wonderful sonance of Leon’s songs. ‘Stray Dogs’ for example has a gleam of indie delight that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Ben Howard LP.

‘Urban Lullaby’ has a stunning intro, echoing melodies of Americana. Vocally the song is wonderfully endearing - please give this song some time on a streaming service near you.

Leon was joined on stage by his sister (he made sure to point this out!) Issy who is an incredibly talented musician; her playing seemed effortless and relaxed yet incredibly soulful. This was a debut live performance to be proud of.

Set closer ‘Blinding White Lie’ saw the duo share harmonies beautifully. This set really was a joy to witness - here’s to more from Leon and Isabelle, good luck to you both.
