Castle quarter is turning into an experience and entertainment mall in Norwich, and we are here for it! Somewhat tucked away on the Ground floor you’ll find Putt Putt Noodle, an epic pan Asian themed adventure golf meets Asian street food, all in the same venue, what more could you want?
We had the pleasure of being invited to Putt Putt Noodle in Norwich last week. Whilst it’s been in Castle Quarter for over a year now, it’s had a recent revamp to the entire menu, and I cannot express how impressed we were with the overall quality of the food and vast menu.
We started the evening off with a cocktail, with lots of choice from the extensive drink's menu. Levelling up a traditional cocktail, we tried an exclusive bubble cocktail, a fun take on authentic Japanese boba tea, with edible liquid balls sitting at the bottom of the drink filled with a flavoured liquid of choice. We tried the Strawvod (You’ll never guess what’s in it) and the Passion fruit punch we’re both delicious and we highly recommend you trying them on your next visit. As we visited on a Tuesday evening, we got to take full advantage of one of their many deals with extended happy hour(s) every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 5pm - 7pm. Purchase any two of the same Cocktails and one is Free!
To kick the competition off we played a round of mini golf, club in one hand and drink in the other, the duo we kept the whole evening. The first course we played was Dragon Quest, working our way backwards through the 3 intricate courses. While we initially thought the course may be simple and easy to play, it was to our surprise that it challenged us and turned up the heat!
Once finishing our first round of golf we got served our starters, a delicious selection of prawn gyoza’s, chicken gyoza’s and prawn katsu. Each dish was incredibly delicious, and we found it difficult to choose a favourite among them. Accompanied with a dip of sweet chilli sauce to give the food an extra kick of spice, which really set them off.
After starters we moved on to the Cherry Blossom course, we were particularly impressed by the attention to detail and the effort put into crafting the course's aesthetics. The running water river in the centre of the course and the beautiful blossom trees added to the overall ambiance. It truly felt like playing golf in a magical garden.
Our main course was served and wow, we were impressed! Everything is cooked fresh to order and it did not disappoint. It was spectacular. To put the value for money into perspective, we agreed it was Wagamama style food, for half of the price but still high quality and authentic Asian food. We tried the Chicken Teriyaki Rice bowl, topped with fresh tomatoes, spinach, Edamame, Kimchi and sesame seeds, which was absolutely ten out of ten! The perfect sauce to ingredient ratio on a very generous portion, a dish I would definitely return for!
The Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup was a delightful culinary experience that we also tried. This consisted of chicken and noodles (obviously), in a delicious broth topped with chicken gyoza’s, spinach and a sliced hard-boiled egg. Again, it was a good portion size and is definitely a must-try for any ramen enthusiast or anyone looking for a comforting and satisfying meal!
To top of the experience, we were served our food by a delightful robot waitress, a new experience for all of us. It added a delightful and entertaining touch to the night, and we were all fascinated by its movements. The robot even surprised us by singing happy birthday to the neighbouring table after serving their desserts.
The Flying Tiger course was the perfect grand finale! It offered a great balance of challenge and enjoyment. Walking over the wooden bridge added a sense of adventure, and the animal statues around the course added a great touch, it all made the experience even more incredible. It was a lot of fun navigating through the various obstacles and trying to master each hole. Whether you're a confident golfer or a beginner, this whole golfing experience catered to everyone's skill and age level, making it an ideal activity for friends and family.
To get the full experience, of course we couldn’t leave without having dessert, that would just be rude, right? We shared a few different dishes so we could get a taste for them all, these consistent of the strawberry cheesecake mochi balls, mango cheesecake mochi balls and the red bean Dorayaki. For any little moon lovers, the mochi balls would be for you, delicious flavours and a lovely crumbly exterior texture to give the cheesecake effect all over. The Dorayaki was a first for us both, especially the red bean filling, the best way to describe it would be like 2 scotch pancakes, but with a lighter texture, fixed together with the filling sandwiches between them. The red bean centre was a fig like texture, with undertones of a fig taste too, but we struggled to find a real taste comparison for it. As we both have a sweet tooth, we thoroughly enjoyed the desserts, but weren’t quite convinced on the red bean filling, it has an acquired taste. It is definitely worth a try!
The service throughout the evening was impeccable, we were extremely well taken care of, with consistent check-ups on how the food was, for additional drinks and our experience as a whole! A huge thank you to the Putt Putt Noodle staff for going above and beyond to ensure we had a lovely evening, with no hassle or room for complaints.
During our evening visit we saw families, groups of friends and couples all playing a round of mini golf or two and enjoying a drink or some food, the perfect combination for an evening out. As this summer has been short of sunshine, finding fun indoor activities to suit different ages can be a struggle, but I would highly recommend Putt Putt Noodle next time you feel stuck for a fun activity to happily fulfil the day.
We cannot recommend Putt Putt Noodle enough, the perfect mix of a fun and lively atmosphere in the evening with delicious cuisine, drinks flowing, with a side of crazy golf. Alternatively, as a fun activity for younger children, suitable for all the family!
