Last night, Norwich was graced by the presence of the one and only Sigala and his hardcore carnival posse as they took to the stage for a mid-week belter of a show aptly dubbed The Sigala Carnival’
Watching Sigala beast it out on a plethora of keyboards, drum machines and decks was more than enough to get the crowd riled up; add in a full live band complete with bongo drums, exceptionally talented lead vocalists, an MC with attitude, two feisty dancers busting out the dancehall moves and the crowd inevitably lost the plot! The whole performance from beginning to end was just buzzing with limitless energy and power, I felt like I couldn’t look away as every time a track built up to a drop something else magical and awesome would happen! Giant smoke cannons, glitter guns (fired at the crowd by Sigala himself as he stood up on the top of the speaker stack) multi-coloured lights, streamers and what seemed to be an endless string of incredible performers that kept appearing from the party cabin around which the whole set was based.
Even though he appeared as if from nowhere over the last year or so, Sigala has a fair few classic tracks already stashed under his belt which meant the show could be divided up unto three sections; most recent tracks, last year’s tracks and an ‘old skool’ mash up interlude to break things up in the middle. At this point the band and back up crew disappeared off and he treated us to a selection of bangers ranging from ATB's Til I Come to House of Pain's Jump Around as he went through the decades.
The show opened the show with a recent single Give Me Your Love and ended things with the track that broke the music industry Easy Love. Even though I’ve heard that song more times than I can even remember is still sounded brilliant and everyone was singing their hearts out for the encore. My personal favourite, Sweet Lovin’ was really stripped back, slow and soulful which made the build up and the drop all the more satisfying. I think that song is one of the most uplifting tracks to have on the radio in the car - hearing it live was on another level!
I loved everything about last night’s carnival vibes - I really cannot big it up enough! Every single individual up on that stage was an expert in their field, they were all totally unique performers that came together as a gorgeous fusion of talent sprawling across the many genres of music that make up a Sigala showcase.
Sigala, Norfolk born and bred- you did us proud! Congratulations on being a raging success!
