Thai Street. Magdalen Street

Thai Street is fucking great. Full disclaimer this is not our first time getting food from here so we can vouch for the food being consistently amazing. Everyone who works there is polite, efficient and keen to help no matter how busy they are. If you would like the full order to be vegan then just say and they will ensure there is no cross contamination between meat and vegan dishes.

To start we ordered Tom Kha soup – mushroom only (£5.20), I am totally addicted to this soup and it is not unheard of for me to order one to have for lunch the following day. Even though Tyler does eat meat, we get the full order vegan so we can mix and match curries. For each order you can choose the meat fish or meat replacement you’d like and there is more than one vegan option! You can choose between tofu or mock duck. The curries we chose were tofu Masaman (£7.85) and a mock duck Panang (£8.15), both of these curries are packed full of flavor and have some veggies cooked to perfection. There is a good ratio of tofu/mock duck to sauce to mix in with rice and vegetables, plus the sauce is amazing.

Even though we love takeaways, we both love vegetables and are not that keen on stodge, which again is why Thai Street is the best. We tried the Broccoli Pad Pak (£5.25) and have never looked back, its broccoli in a light oyster and garlic sauce (vegan) and it is so good. The broccoli is not over cooked and the sauce is the best, I could have this dish, as a meal on its own well if the rest of the dishes on the menu weren’t equally as good.

The final part of this meal was the rice; we ordered coconut rice (£4.15) and vegan mushroom fried rice (£4.75). We hadn’t tried the mushroom fried rice before and not only is the dish massive but also great. The coconut rice is a staple for us, its great mixed with the curry or broccoli or just on its own (it is also great the next day if there is any left.

Overall, Thai street is a 10/10 and that comes from someone who normally rates food out of 5, so guess I have to say 10/10 . If you are vegan, veggie, pescatarian or a meat eater there is something on this menu for you. We are yet to encounter a food we like less than a lot from here and would recommend anyone who hasn’t had the chance yet to give it a shot.
