Zaks is an iconic restaurant in Norwich. It has the perfect blend of fun and quirky that makes you want to visit each restaurant over and over. The way things are currently working means you book a ‘table reservation’ slot on Open Table for Zaks, choose what you would like from the menu and wait for the morning of your reservation for the restaurant to call you and place your order. When you arrive at the restaurant, just say your name and take a seat, your food will be with you shortly.
We ordered from the Mousehold Heath restaurant, which is one of the most amazing looking buildings in Norwich. The new way things are working actually worked really well for us, as we have two dogs who are not normally allowed at Zaks, it meant we could wait outside in the outdoor seating area with our dogs until the food was ready. I know I often say the staff at restaurants is great but these guys were next level, literally couldn’t fault them and it was a pleasure to order from them. I do really feel like the staff and the service at a restaurant can make or break the experience and these guys deserve a nod for sure!
I have to say, our ordering couldn’t have been improved, everything we ate was A-A-A-mazing. For Tyler who does eat meat, the highlight was the chicken wings (4 for £6). He tried the garlic ones and they have been described as the best he has ever tried and the highlight of the menu – believe me, this is high praise. I am obsessed with pickled gherkins so the first thing I ordered were the ‘Frickles’ (£5) (fried pickles) to be totally honest I ordered these from the normal menu and not the vegan menu so they might not be vegan. I have tried many a friend pickle and these are the best. Obviously we had to get some curly fries (£2.50) to share, these are never a let down.
Our main courses were of course burgers, Tyler had ‘The JD’ (£8.50) whereas I had the ‘Rock House’ from the vegan menu (£9). This is made with the ‘Moving Mountains’ vegan patty and you have the option of adding ‘facon’ (fake bacon). All the burgers currently on offer in the main menu are currently available on the vegan menu too. This really makes a difference in my eyes because food envy is the worst.
Overall I would give the service 10/10, the food 9/10 and the menu a 9/10. Go book a time slot and go get the best American style food in this fine city (that we have tried so far anyway….)
