Simon Boyd was born in London in 1978 and has had strong family links to Suffolk for many years to the present day.
He studied Fine Art for four years at Middlesex University in London, and his love of the wide open Suffolk and Norfolk skies formed the beginning of a quest to convey the harmony of nature; echoed in the work portrayed in this exhibition.
"….. Also Light" reflects an emotional rapport and sense of magic that underpins nature. The 'circle of time is a constant theme in his work, and the urgent need of humanity for peace and contemplation.
Simon has been very influenced by the work of the poet and visionary, William Blake.
A key inspiration for the colour and depth of his work is the South American landscape of La Pampa, where many of these paintings were created. Simon's use of palette echoes the sense of vitality and purity the landscape there evokes.
"When I am looking at the immense flatness of La Pampa and the profound stillness evoked, an awed sense of the infinite comes to me; that seems to take me back to the very source of being and creation. If I can portray that in my paintings, I have hopefully succeeded in touching a vibration deep within the core of each of us; a salve to counterbalance the negativity that often leads to a sense of hopelessness".
