Singing and playing on instruments such as the lute, viol, recorder and renaissance guitar, Hexachordia plays Elizabethan music inspired by quotations from the Bard’s work by composers such as Thomas Morley and John Dowland.

The Hexachordia trio offers a fresh approach to early music, and they have a strong track record performing entertaining concerts to a wide range of audiences across the country. The musicians believe that by placing music into context, it brings both the historic period and the music itself to life. Hexachordia recreates the instrumental flexibility that was a key feature in music-making at the time. The ability to play a number of different musical instruments along with the possession of a good singing voice was essential for professional musicians. Each of them, therefore, specialises in a range of instruments of this period, allowing them to perform a wide range of ensemble music in different instrumental and vocal combinations.
