Luke Peter Foster

WHO?

Luke Peter Foster is an emerging spoken word artist. This 18 year old from South Lopham who’s still at school got to the semi finals of the Next Big Thing earlier in the year and appeared at last year’s Norwich Sound and Vision. With his new EP, Our Calm Burn, already getting plays on both BBC Introducing in Norfolk and Suffolk, it seemed a good time for a catch up.

WHAT?

Listening to Luke Peter Foster’s music is like having a friend sat next to you pouring their heart out, not so much telling you their problems, more offering insights on the world around them. Sounds a bit deep? That’s fine by Luke. Why should all music be happy or sad – why can’t it be thoughtful?  This is a man in a constant state of exploring feelings, emotions, relationships. The music is sparse yet full of wonder. The vocal delivery, almost hushed in tone is dark in mood, but never mournful or hurried; every word is made to count.

LIVE?

Now here’s the thing. You’d expect that a bedroom wordsmith like Luke would prefer to create, then deliver his recordings to the world then shut himself away again. Not a bit of it. “I love to engage with a crowd,” Luke says. “I feel I can project more of what I want to say in a live performance. And I like to see people listening.” None of this would be possible, he acknowledges, without his longterm live collaborator Happy Ghost. Having someone making the music alongside him means he can focus on making every set a compelling event full of highs and lows.

THE FUTURE?

The future is a journey, taking small steps, working on creating quality music. As that progresses, he says he can think about ambitions and where it may lead. For now it’s about trying to get to university to study Industrial Design, not music. There are many surprising things about Luke, which is why his music is really worth a listen.
