Alex Sheppard
In a musical world full of manufactured bands and boring indie, Alex is an anti-folk princess with quirky lyrics and catchy riffs that are a welcome relief to music fans. Originally from Norwich but studying in London, Alex is now kicking up a storm with music fans, venues and industry professionals between the two cities. With London gigs planned between now and the end of the year, Alex is sure to continue this success. Her musical career has gone from strength to strength after being a finalist in the Eastern Daily Press’s Next Big Thing Competition in 2006 and then spending a year busking around Europe and playing with a ladyboy cabaret band in Thailand. More recently, she has played Latitude festival, opened for ex-Libertines frontman Carl Barat’s band Dirty Pretty Things and has been featured in NME magazine.
2009 has seen Alex featured on a variety of BBC Radio shows from Steve Lamaq to Huw Stephens to Zane Lowe, who praised her “great lyrics” and declared himself a fan.
With her uniquely real style of music, quirky character and absolute musical passion, she is certainly an artist to keep your eye on over the next eighteen months.
