So Cameron Diaz…what exactly did happen in Vegas?

Why did you choose this role?

I read the script and I just laughed. I immediately saw the potential of how funny it could be on screen. They gave it to Ashton and me at the same time and once I knew he was a part of it, I could picture him in the role right away. I thought it would be great because I was already a fan of his and knew he would be so funny in the part. Then I met with him and we decided it would be really fun to do if we got the right director, which we did with Tom Vaughan. We all decided what movie we wanted to make and we went out and made it.

Ashton can be pretty wild on a movie set. How was he with you?

We didn’t really have time to be too wild and unpredictable. This film was a lot of work and we worked long hours and we had a great time, but of course there were moments where we kind of pushed some of the comedy that probably won’t make it into film. The characters would play off each other tit for tat -- one goes after the other and the other one goes after the first one. It just goes back and forth on screen. So that energy was a lot of fun and that dynamic was fun for us to play because making a film is a partnership. Although we have to be on the same page, there is still a place for improvisation.

Before starting “What Happens in Vegas” you took almost 2 years off from your career.

I don’t even recall having time off, but I just kind of go with the flow. It’s something that I’ve always done. I kind of do things when they feel right. I’m motivated by that mostly -- where I am at the time, whether it feels like the right thing to do. I don’t put any restrictions on myself that say you have to do this or you have to do that. I allow myself to experience the journey and that has been good. There is not a beginning or end, it’s just all one big thing.

Are you back at work to full speed?

Yes, this is the most work I’ve done consecutively in 10 years. I’ve done three movies in a row and I’ve definitely not done that in probably a good 10 years. And I’ve done it because I’ve found films that I’ve really loved that all came together quickly because of the possible actors strike in the summer. I decided to take the opportunities that were before me or somebody else would do them or they would go away and who knows when they’d get made. I was gung ho about taking it all on. I had taken a bit of time off and hadn’t been on set for a year and I was just very excited about the work. I was excited abo
