Coasts + Only the Poets

Waving farewell to Coasts, an enigmatic musical celebration of a decade of music

A decade since forming, having built a dedicated following, getting records playlisted on Radio One, blazing up the festival circuit and releasing a successful debut album, Coasts have decided to call it a day. But, not before one last hoorah of a farewell tour. The band have a real soft-spot for Norwich, so couldn’t resist a date at the Waterfront.

Plucky indie band Only The Poets provided the support for the evening. The pattering bass-lines, swirling guitar riffs and a bit of classic twee “woooahhh”’s emitted a care-free, youthful energy. The lead-singer bounded about the stage showing off his best dad-dancing skills.  Sonically they’re likely to gel well with fans of The Kooks.

The main lads of the night Coasts kicked off their set with the triumphant Tonight. From the very beginning they stated they wanted the evening to be a celebration, and that is exactly what the show was until the final track. Fans reacted passionately, with a couple fangirl screams for good measure. With their phenomenal fizzling guitars, thundering drums, and epic choruses, the band encapsulated sheer euphoria.

The setlist covered material both new and old, with a few rarities as treats for die-hard followers. A Rush Of Blood was a particular highlight. The synths and instrumentals gradually built up to a volcanic eruption, its’ heart racing tempo being impactful in the live setting. The spiraling melody of Modern Love got everyone moving, whilst Stone flaunted searing guitars and crunchier verses.

Anthem Oceans was the perfect finale for the bittersweet celebration, its easily chantable chorus emitting vibrant joy.  The band shared their humble appreciation for their fans, speaking fondly of the memories they have playing in Norwich. From the number of fans belting every word to every song, it’s clear they’ve made their mark on many and are sure not to be forgotten anytime soon.
