$ebbuku - Young Norfolk Arts Festival
The Young Norfolk Arts Festival is currently taking place here in Norwich, showcasing the amazing array of talent we are lucky to have across our county.
One of the brightest talents is 17 year old Seb Bates, AKA $ebbuku. Making his debut live performance on the ‘Lost River Stage’ he shone with his incredibly honest and earnest lyrics.
For someone so young $ebbuku hasn’t always had the easiest of times. He’s been incredibly open and honest in the past about how life can be a struggle and has an incredible way of allowing this to shine through his songs.
The track ‘Bed Of Nails’ is a cathartic run through $ebbuku’s life, how a fractious relationship can cause such hardship. There’s heart-breaking apologies to those closest to him, yet at the same time you feel the sense hope and belief that Seb is looking back yet also looking to the future - "one day I’ll have some money get him he dream car” he says of his dad.
As far as debut live performances go $ebbuku nailed it. He had the will and support of the crowd from the moment he arrived on stage. Although he encouraged us to cheer he really didn’t need too, the love was instantly there. From a toddler really getting into the set, displaying incredible timing in his dance moves to an elderly gentleman nodding along in approval, everyone who witnessed the performance came away impressed.
Your past never needs to define you as people we can always grow, and for $ebbuku I’m delighted to say that the future is extremely bright.
