Inferno

Hollywood big hitters Ron Howard and Tom Hanks manage to make Dan Brown's bad book even worse with this turgid adaptation. Iconologist, Robert Langdon (Hanks) wakes in a hospital with amnesia and with the help of Doctor Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), sets out on a race against time to uncover the truth behind yet another conspiracy and prevent a virus from wiping out half of the world's population.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Another Hollywood Tom (Cruise) sets out on another race against time to uncover the truth behind another conspiracy, this time to clear his name and unearth a secret from his past. The script is misjudged and tacky and lacks the tongue in cheek fun of the first film, but it's an enjoyable enough action flick with some half decent fight scenes if that's your bag.

The Girl On The Train

Following in the same "Domestic Noir" tracks as Gone Girl, The Girl On The Train tells the tale of Rachel (Emily Blunt) an alcoholic divorcee whose life spirals even further out of control when she becomes caught up in a missing persons investigation. The unreliable narrator is used to good effect here, and the performances are all very solid, even if it is all a little predictable.

Train To Busan

After a virus breaks out in South Korea, some passengers on a high-speed bullet train from Seoul to Busan fight the zombie horde and try to survive long enough to reach their destination. Full of hackneyed character archetypes and melodrama this could have been totally forgettable but it zips along at a breathtaking pace and has a genuinely creative originality that is lacking in so many films of this overdone genre.
