Freshers Fling Drag Show
Celebrating a year since their debut show, Voodoo Daddy's presents Freshers Fling Round Two, hosted by the one and only iconic drag queen, mother of the Haus of Brat, NUA student, Brat!
This year has a twist, to unite, or potentially divide the two universities of Norwich, as NUA and UEA drag stars go head-to-head in a battle of the best.
Who are your bets on?

Isla White
Brat's first hosting performance last year was our first time experiencing a drag show and let’s just say they got us hooked! Since then, we have both had a real admiration and appreciation for drag culture, so we were especially excited to have the opportunity to review this show. This will be extra special for us as it will be our first time as Drag show reviewers and our last time as freshers, as we both start our final year.
As NUA students ourselves, we may have been a guilty of cheering a bit louder for our fellow peer performers, but all acts came together to put on an incredible show! Showing Norwich freshers, the culture, and the community of drag artists that we support as a student and as a city.
We had high hopes for this show and let’s just say we were not disappointed in the slightest! Current students and recent graduates from NUA and UEA made up the cast of Tuesday night’s show, taking the stage with high and fighting spirits.
Host of the night Brat was the first to take the stage, opening with a fun number that consisted of an outfit change to get us ready for a lively night of talent, entertainment, and whipped cream shenanigans.
Welcoming to the stage national drag star, with their roots from UEA, Miss Isla White, who sported a gorgeous Lycra, blue flame 2 piece, accentuating curves and alluring the audience. One thing that can be said for Isla White, is that her hair is always as bold and beautiful as her. Her luscious yellow locks cascading around her, as she not only danced on stage, but performed impressive, choreographed body slams and to top off her performance and bring her first act to a close, the splits!

Sam Moanella
Sam Moanella, who luckily resembled a prawn, rather than salmonella itself or any of the symptoms, performed first for NUA. Dressed in a handcrafted pink headdress paired with a satin, salmon coloured shirt and white trousers to bring this fish inspired look together. This drag king performed to the iconic track by the Killers, ’The Man’, their confidence flourished on stage, full of energy and empowerment, very much becoming the man during their performance.
After a phenomenal first half, there was a 20 min break, this was a chance for the crowd to volunteer themselves for the lip sync battle, one student from each university to have the opportunity of winning themselves a bottle of drink and of course, a tiara! When I say the crowd went crazy for the lip sync performers, I mean they went CRAZY! There was so much support for the two that went up as they smashed the performance of ‘Juice’ by Lizzo. As an NUA student I was in full support of our more than willing candidate and they did amazing, but boy did the UEA participant pull it out the bag. UEA won!! After the lip sync battle it was time for the drag king and queens to perform again for their second act.
With all the acts being incredible, our personal favourite and friend of ours Allie Express was the one who had the crowd chanting their name, it was so special to see the support and love they had for this drag queen. In the first half Allie Express showed up in a new uniform, of a track suit, (still paired with 6-inch heels of course), to bash out the rap to ‘Deal wiv it’, channelling strong no bullshit energy. In the next half they brought sass, tension, and a bit of light fixture swinging (don’t worry, nothing was broken) to ‘Get Outta My Way’ by Kylie Minogue.

The Duke
The cast of the show also featured The Duke and Knuckle Sandwich, both from UEA, exercising their talents on stage. The Duke with 2 very energetic performances, the first containing a swift outfit change mid act, which definitely got the cheers of the crowd that it deserved. Knuckle sandwich took the stage looking fierce and fiery, bringing this exact spirit into her acts to put on an amazing performance that oozed personality.
And from NUA, Lauren Order with their sultry number of ‘I kissed a girl’ and ‘Bitches’ by Tove Lo, Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant and ALMA. Their moves got the crowd hot and sweaty with a raunchy performance. Lauren Order whipped their leather belt around the stage and grabbed members of the crowd to wrap the belt around in an erotic manner. All eyes were on them…

Allie Express
One element of a drag show that we always love, is the appreciation and celebration of diversity. We have never been to a drag show and left in a bad mood because it’s such an uplifting environment, the support is always astronomical.
Once again, we were blown away by the sheer variety in talent, costumes, acts and personality that took to the stage tonight! A huge thank you to Brat for putting on an incredible show and being the bold, but slightly slurred organiser and host for the event!
