Girl Scout - Gabby Rivers

As the heavens opening and the downpour raged on the aptly named Waterfront, two of the brightest and soon to be biggest bands took to the Studio stage to bring us some musical sunshine.

Gabby Rivers and her fantastic band of musicians kicked us off with their wonderful, vibrant indie/alt sounds, her songs are destined for bigger stages. Having won the Bury Sound competition back in 2019 and with appearances at Reading and Latitude festival already in the bag, there’s a bright future ahead.

‘Money Maker’ written about the struggles of trying to financially survive as an up-and-coming musician, is wonderfully refreshing, as is ‘Uh Oh’ with its driven chorus and a seriously strong bass line. These young musicians have really crafted their art.

Ending their set with ‘Two Face’ a brilliant track that discusses the retail world and bitchiness within (if you know you know) the five piece, getting the audience involved, finish with a flourish. I’m really looking forward to catching Gabby and her band again soon, absolutely one to watch

Hailing from Stockholm, Girl Scout open their tour with a bouncing, joyous set full of your soon to be favourite indie hits. The quartet have a fantastic stage presence and seem thoroughly delighted to be in this fine city.

Storming through their eleven-track set list the band make everyone watching feel not only welcome but a part of their gang. New single ‘Monsters’ roars out of the PA, fast and spiky it is definitely one of the highlights of their set as is ‘Bruises’ described as a power ballad the vocal harmonies really take flight, it’s a beautiful song one that should grace many a festival stage this summer.

‘Call it off’ the first song the band wrote together is a powerful slice of indie goodness as is ‘Weirdo’ both songs should be gracing summer soundtracks. We were treating to a wonderful rendition of The Beach Boys ‘I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times’ and ‘Millionaire’ the harmonies on this track in particular were just sublime.

Closing their set with ‘Do You Remember Sally Moore?’ Girl Scout have treated those in the studio to fifty minutes of delightful indie/shoegaze/pop. Should you spot the band on a festival bill you’re attending this summer you should mark them down as a must see, I for one am really excited to see them again.
