There's nothing like a bit of decent music on a Wednesday to get you through a shitty half summer/half winter week I always say, and what better way to spend it than hearing out some local talent within the warm cosy walls of Norwich's Owl Sanctuary.

First up, with a strong mix of mesmerising guitar looping and a voice which you can't help but want to hug was Saturday Morning Breakfast. Despite the technical difficulties at the start, the talent beamed out of 27 year old Robbie, giving a captivating but unfortunately short set. After a interlude of congratulations and small talk, Curves and Nerves kicked it back off with a comedy roadshow featuring a peppering of absolutely great music. To get to the point, Cal Hudson sings about everything you're feeling because it's too complicated to explain yourself, and he does a bloody great job at it. Breaking down the boundaries between teen angst and a mature tone, he's got a lot in him, and I presume a lot more to give. Keep an eye out, Hudson, we have a talent.  No rest for the wicked, AJQJ sweep on in with a heavier tone which compliments the gig nicely, drawing in a few more spectators, who no doubt share the same opinion that it's always refreshing to see young talent paying tribute to what new wave rock should be. At times they mirror the young fresh take that bands such as Gnarwolves do incredibly well; if you're into inevitable head bopping then this band is a must see. To round up the night, headliners Grin by Growl take to the stage putting the musical definition into the phrase weird but wonderful. The band pride themselves on being individual and they certainly deliver, with strong female vocals thrown over a mash up of noisy guitar, these guys know how to have fun. Putting Marmite into musical terms, you'll love them or hate them, I'll let you decide. All in all, the local scene is coming up, and you better be ready.
