Interview with Seamus Haji
If you tried to name one of the most creative and technically gifted house DJs of our time, then the name Seamus Haji may be the first that pops in to your cranium. Whether you know him by that name, or by any of his seriously successful monikers, Big Bang Theory, Mekkah, 11th Dimension, Get This! or Ijah, it’s true to say that Seamus Haji by any other name would sound as sweet…
Born of Irish-Indian descent, Haji started DJing at the fresh-faced age of 16, playing a mixture of early House, Soul and Hip Hop. After some serious determination, Haji got to prove his mettle with a residency at The Satellite, London and regular gigs at mega-clubs like Ministry of Sound.
Aside from the sun, sea and s…sangria, the promise of four year’s residency at Pacha enticed Haji to Ibiza where he gathered an army of fans through his musical ability, diversity and smouldering good looks…
As well as looking comfortable behind the decks, Seamus has proved himself as an industry hero, with stints writing for Blues & Soul magazine, Echoes, Touch and Musik, as well as performing A&R roles for Slip ‘n’ Slide and Defected. His relationship with Defected led to him starting up his own label, Big Love, with Defected founder, Janet Bell, plus sister label, Soul Love in 2002.
