Assassin’s Creed - 1st Jan

“Fassbender – duh, duuuuuuh, duh…” Go on, sing it. Sing it to the tune of Goldfinger by Dame Shirley Bassey. Fun, isn’t it? Well, unfortunately it’s more fun than this movie. I mean, come on, anyone who’s ever played the computer game could’ve told them that the plot was the most piss-poor thing about it. It’s all over the time-and-space. That’s Cockney rhyming slang for “this film is shit.”

La La Land - 13th Jan

Musical tribute to, well, musicals, La La Land stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as two people who fall in love whilst singing and dancing about everything. If you like films where people sing and dance about, and/or whilst they are doing, everything, then you will love this movie. I’ve liked a few movies where people sing and dance about everything, and this reminds me of them. Good times.

Manchester by the Sea – 20th Jan

Nothing to do with the Happy Mondays’ trip to Blackpool, this is instead a well-crafted drama starring Casey Affleck as an uncle forced to take over raising his teenage nephew after his brother dies. Affleck’s brother, I mean, not the boy’s. Affleck is brilliant, and dare I say, Oscar nom-worthy? Oh, I do. I do dare.

Ghost in the Shell - 25th Jan

Before the big budget, admittedly awesome looking live action remake of this anime classic comes out later this year, why not pop to Cinema City to revisit its crazy, dystopian, cyberpunk roots? Underneath the Manga tree, so to speak. If you want to see one of the best ever animated movies on the big screen, now’s your chance.
