Every year an abundance of diverse musicians from all genre backgrounds fill the whimsical Spiegel Tent as part of the Norwich and Norfolk Festival. On a warm late Spring evening, festival goers were treated to the charming delights of Jasmine.4.T.

Jasmine is the first British signee to Saddest Factory Records, the independent label of Phoebe Bridgers. She writes warming folk-rock about chosen families, young love, and mental health with an endearing vocal tone.

Backed by a 4 piece band, dressed in vintage Levis and a band T, Jasmine opened proceedings with the soft rocking grunge of “Skin on Skin”. The acoustics of the Spiegeltent and intimate setting perfectly complimented her dulcet tones. More up-beat moments such as “Elephant” excelled with a flurry of thrashing drums and rumbling guitars. The audience gradually came out of their shell to dance along as the night progressed.

Jasmine stayed true to her punk spirit dedicating a song to one of her best friends, who she claimed was wrongfully convicted of terrorism during protests against the genocide in Gaza. She also spoke on the recent EHRC rulings limiting Trans people usage of single sex spaces, before performing the impactful anthem “Woman” leading to an emotional response from the crowd with many crying and embracing their friends.

Jasmine is a phenomenal story teller, musician, and activist. The hour-long set provided the space for Trans people to feel seen in a time that they are vilified by so many, and evoked a sense of hope for the future. It is so vital that artists like this are provided with platforms to celebrate their art forms, standing defiantly against those that are against them.
