Kitty Perrin - Wild Paths

My last visit to Last Pub Standing (LPS) was around this time last year to see the punk band Wife Swap USA at Wild Paths, so to be back in the venue to hear a whole different genre of music was a nice switch-up!  
 
As soon as I got my wristband at the door of LPS and entered the building, the buzz of excitement for Kitty Perrin’s gig hit me like a crashing wave. The entire beer garden was packed full of people, eager to catch a glimpse of the Norwich singer/songwriter. The crowd was formed of friends, family, and fans of the BBC Introducing presenter, doing her thing at Wild Paths this year, and the hype was understandable from the second she started playing.  
 
Perrin opened with Nothing Bad About Me, a storming ballad about trying to please a partner and wondering if it’s a good thing. A lot of songs, even though I’d never heard them before, really resonated with me as a young person experiencing life, love and relationship in today’s world - Kitty’s lyricism really gathers all these mixed feelings and poetically strings and ties them together with a bow to deliver beautiful folk-pop tracks.  
 
The set continued with tracks ranging from stories of divorce (Bad Luck) to queer relationships (Village Hero) to finding a home base in Norwich (Settle) - Perrin’s influences of Marika Hackman, Phoebe Bridgers and Fleet Foxes really shone through the entirety of the gig.  
 
The mini community that was the crowd were entranced, and each song was met with huge rounds of loud, supportive applause after they ended.  
 
Perrin’s presence on stage was warm and welcoming; it really felt like we were somewhere else for 40 minutes, and just in this beautiful bubble of gentle folkiness. The walk home was accompanied by Stick It Out, Perrin’s debut EP, in my ears, and it had me so excited to hear what comes next from her. She has a wonderfully bright future ahead of her, in Norwich and beyond!
