Let's Eat Grandma
"We got together when we were 10 years old"
Who are you?
Rosa and Jenny - aged 15
Sounds like
Bjork, Kate Bush, The Knife, psychedelic electronica
Where did you get your name from?
We were discussing the phrase ‘Lobster's Crackers’ (which could either mean crackers that belong to the lobster, or that the lobster is crackers - where punctuation changes the meaning). One of our friends said, "Yeah, like Let's Eat Grandma" and we just thought "DAMN, THAT’S IT."
How would you describe your music?
We don't like to limit ourselves to a particular type of music; it’s eccentric and atmospheric, and created using vocals and a variety of different instruments including saxophone, mandolin, percussion, guitar, recorder, drums, harmonica, ukulele, cello, autoharp, xylophone, and keyboard effects. In a lot of ways we would describe ourselves as performers, as well as musicians, using movement and costume when we are on stage.
What are your musical influences?
Most of inspiration comes from our fascinations, such as fairy tales, tree houses and the ocean. An interest in the unconscious mind, for example led to a composition involving the kazoo, harmonica, triangle and unnerving screams.
How did you get together and what are the highlights of your musical career thus far?
We got together when we were 10 years old. It's only in the 18 months that we’ve been writing our own music to perform. Highlights include supporting Kiran Leonard at Epic Studios, performing at Latitude and Folk East, but the ultimate best was an incredible week in the studio beginning to record our debut album.
Do you have any forthcoming music being released?
We've just signed to a record label, but we can't tell you who yet, it's a secret; also we are currently working on our debut album.
What upcoming gigs do you have?
Norwich Sound and Vision 2015 – Norwich Arts Centre @ 8pm
