Morganway

WHO?

Morganway are a five-piece, sometimes six-piece band with their roots in North Norfolk. At the core are twin brothers Callum and Kieran Morgan who have forged an act of superb harmonies and a litter of tuneful tracks over the last year. With a headline gig at the Norwich Arts Centre in September and a new album to look forward to beyond that, the future is wonderfully bright. However, there is a dark past – and that is where our journey must start.

WHAT?

With full page features in the likes of Maverick magazine you could fall for the story that here is a home-bred New Country act heading for the heights like fellow Brit based act, The Shires. The difference is that this band never set out to be country. Indeed, they struggled long and hard to find their musical identity, trying indie and rock – even flirting with electro at one stage.

“It began to remind me of the old Groucho Marx quote, ‘I refuse to join any club that would have me as its member’”, said Callum. But as musicians came and went and a settled line up appeared, they began to play the music they liked rather than making a sound they thought others would like. “It’s been a process, we’ve done the miles and played the gigs. Some bands come fully formed from the start whilst others, like ours, take a little longer.”

It was the arrival, though, of Yve Mary B that made everything click and finally gave them the distinctive sound they have today. And yes, they have a country and, more broadly, Americana feel. But their past has given them a deep musical well to draw on and those different touches often gives them that little something extra.
