The Invention of Lying
Ricky Gervais follows his lead role in Ghost Town with his Hollywood directorial debut.Set in an alternative realty where absolutely everyone tells the truth all the time, Gervais stars as Mark, a man who is told by the object of his affections that he is fat and has no chance. That us until Mark tells the worlds first lie and quickly discovers’ that lying can lead to a new world of possibilities. Pixar brings us their latest animated blockbuster that continues to raise the bar higher and higher.Just as with Wall-e, Up has a curious lead character for a supposed film for kids. Octogenarian Carl Fredrickson decides to fulfil his and his late wife’s wish of visiting a lost land in South America. When his home is condemned for demolition he attaches thousands of balloons to his house, making it float away. Except Carl wasn’t expecting a stowaway, an 8 year old scout named Russell who trying to get an assisting the elderly badge ends up on a trip of a lifetime.Delight in Pixar’s latest triumph as Up is in cinemas from 9th October.
Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Director Terry Gilliam brings us the late Heath Ledger’s final film in fantastical style.The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. The Fantastic Mr Fox
Adapted from Roald Dahl’s classic book, director Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenennbaums) avoids the family dysfunction for this charming stop-animated fairytale.Mr Fox, Mrs Fox and their offspring live under a hill beneath a tree with Badger, Rabbit, Weasel and all of their families. Every night, Mr Fox steal a meal from on of three crooked farmers: Boggis, Bunce and Bean.
