Red Snapper
After a brief break from the limelight Red Snapper make a welcome return with the highlight of their upcoming gigs being at this years best electronic music festival – Norfolk’s Bloc Weekend. Back in 1993 three friends, drummer Richard Thair, double bassist Ali Friend and guitarist David Ayers joined up and put together their own brand of experimental jazz fusion. Their individual sound and mesmerising live show soon found them signing to legendary dance label Warp Records, and supporting the likes of The Prodigy, Massive Attack and Bjork.
In 2003 they went their separate ways, during which time Richard put his drumming skills towards his new live project with Jake Williams to form a live techno/electro/breaks outfit named Toob.
Come 2007 and Red Snapper were asked to play at The Big Chill festival, which kick-started them into performing again. Now embarking on a new tour Red Snapper’s drummer Richard Thair talks about what he’s been doing over the last few years and his plans for the future with Red Snapper and the other projects he’s got on the go.
How is it having the band back together?
It’s great to be back playing with Ali and David and we’re now working with Tom Challenger on Sax, clarinet and melodica. It’s a return to the original instrumental sound of Red Snapper.
