Soldier-A
Norwich rapper in full effect.
SOLDIER-A
WHO?
Soldier-A, aka Adam Davis, is a 22 year old rapper from Norwich. Long story with a good ending, this one. Several years ago as an early-something teen, Adam was hanging around the Vauxhall Street area of the City when Future Studios arrived one day, set up a mic and gave people the chance to perform. Adam had a go at rapping, did well and was offered the chance to go back to Future to record. Suddenly a force for good had arrived in his life and he took his first steps in writing and making music. It was the death of his father two years ago, though, when he started to take things more seriously. "Losing my father was a big thing," said Adam, "It made me realise that time was important."
WHAT?
So here's the thing. Right from those early Future sessions, people have seen the potential in Adam. There's a real honesty in the way he expresses himself. Words of deep emotion, often autobiographical, told in a way that talks to people his own age who have been through the same things. Music and rap have always been a way of getting his feelings out. But what's making the 2015 Soldier-A a new being entirely from his earlier self, is the music. His meeting with latest Norwich label Headstrung Collective has made him part of something much stronger. Case (aka Derik Bulwadda) has given him the beats and together with manager Daniel Hill they have worked on material that really suits Adam's words. A trickle of new tracks on Bandcamp show there is much to look forward to when his album Thoughts Out Loud is released later this year.
LIVE?
Soldier-A has recently ramped up the live performances; so far this year’s he’s played the River Garden Garden Party in May and will be at Latitude this year as well. He's also become something of a well-loved regular at Platform 12 on St Benedicts Street; at their First Wednesday Open Mic night he has performed both solo and alongside a range of other acts including fellow Headstrung artist Maya Clarke.
