Release Date: 2nd January 2012

The Lemonheads - Laughing all the way to the Cleaners; The Best of the Lemonheads (Music Club Deluxe / Rhino)

47 tracks. 47 tracks, people. That’s how many are on this best of. Who’d have thought that ol’ Evan Dando, him with the hair from the 90s, could’ve ever had that many bestests? But remember that The Lemonheads had been going for a humongous 25 years; the title of this album was taken from their very first single released in 1986. They have been touring recently with their classic 1992 album 'It’s a Shame About Ray', and indeed will be at the Waterfront very soon. Now I for one have to say I haven’t followed The Lemonheads career much since the early nineties and such hits as 'Big Gay Heart', 'Mrs Robinson' and... er... um... well, some of the other songs they did. Apparently they had an album of covers out in 2009 which included guest vocals from people like Liv Tyler and Kate Moss (what? I know.) So I had a listen to a few of the tracks on this best of, and my conclusion is that it mostly sounds like sub-standard Ride/Dinosaur Jnr, and that if anyone likes The Lemonheads that much, surely they would have all their albums already and therefore this best of is pretty much entirely redundant as they are quite boring to listen to. The end.
