WHO?

Thieving Icons formed just two years ago, but they’re all ready for stardom and beyond, "You know, limos, yachts, Kiss style stage make-up." Yep, a band with humour, but definitely serious about the success bit. Liam (vocals) and Luke (bass) were in a previous, met Matt and it all just clicked. Drummer Andrew is the latest addition.

WHAT DO THEY SOUND LIKE?

Fresh. Exciting. Dangerous. This band has an edge to their music, matched by in-your-face real life lyrics. The music is fast with touches of rock; definitely punk, but very catchy-pop too. "In many ways we are still trying to find our sound," Luke told us. "We're not afraid to experiment, try new things, genre-spanning all the time." The band have just recorded a four track EP at Ashwood Studios. "Much better than our first efforts in a conservatory," said Liam, "well, actually more like a propagator. We had to keep stopping every time a plane went over." Their strong lyrics are also down to Liam. "I write stuff all the time about life as we see it. On scraps of paper, corner of envelopes, which all get stuffed into one very tatty book."

LIVE

"We play a gig as we would like to see a gig ourselves," said Luke, so lots of talk and chat between songs. And they try to never turn a gig down. "It's great to play with different people," said Liam. "Acts ask us back, then we meet new bands, then join their next line-up and so it goes." The band put the effort in, rehearsing twice a week, to make sure they get a fast, tight sound. They’re the kind of band that will soon pick up a loyal following.

FUTURE PLANS

So back to that Kiss stage make-up. "We feel most of our journey is still ahead of us," said Liam. "It's our aim to stay humble, push ourselves and improve," added Matt, "take it a gig at a time, aiming to get as many people as possible to hear us." Next up a new EP – then a tour.
