Tibetan Night Terrors

“Spongebob on Ritalin”

Tibetan Night Terrors

With a clutch of BBC Introducing in Norfolk radio plays already, it's time to find out more about Tibetan Night Terrors. Meet a band that takes its music seriously, but has more fun than most; think garish wardrobes and a band personality they describe as “Spongebob on Ritalin”.

WHO?

Who else would dislocate their kneecap on stage doing Elvis impressions? Gotta be Ben Wong, guitar and vocals, who’s joined by Katy Tuttle on synths, Matthew Gadd on bass, Marco Giovanni on percussion and Owen Cox on drums. If some of the names sound familiar it's because you may have encountered them in two former Norfolk music scene favourites Maglia Rosa Group and Kings And Crows. Their first gig was last December but trust us this band is not hanging around; they’ve burst on the scene and want to make it count, already producing the Norfolk Music Video of The Year for their new single The Act of Physical Love Making (nice). The single launch is at Norwich Arts Centre on the 18th September.

WHAT?

They call their music "Calypso-disco. An indie-laden nod to 70's soul and disco, tempered with the jolly energy of African soukous and calypso." Translation: upbeat, great twinkly guitar, lovely vocal harmonies delivering something decidedly fresh and different to the local music scene. This is a band that makes you happy – which is exactly their aim.

LIVE?

A lot of fun. But you know what, there's some real good music under all of that larking around; tracks full of great riffs, clever vocal interplay and a guitar sound you won't forget in a hurry. Of course the antics of Ben get even the dourest of standing-at-the-back-of-a-gig person smiling. They’ve recently play the VW Whitenoise Festival and also on Chapelfield Gardens’ bandstand as part of Lord Mayor’s.

GOSSIP

The band have their own board game called Vouight'l Bleshk't. "One of the tiles is called Space Hitler which means that everyone has to hush you by saying “HupupbupupbupbubupbuBUP!” every time you speak."
