Just a month after Norwich celebrated its first Ukulele Festival, amid a powerful wave of appreciation for the diminutive instrument, the heavyweight of the category are coming to town. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have accumulated music fans of all types, and consist of a group of all-singing, all-strumming Ukulele players (the clue is in the name), using instruments bought with loose change, which holds that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the Ukulele. A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock-n-roll and melodious light entertainment featuring only the "bonsai guitar" and a menagerie of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies. No stage has been too grand for them to make their mark on, and they count a performance at the Proms and a memorable rendition of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ on Jools Holland’s 2004 Hootenanny amongst their crowning moment. Straight off the back of a European tour, they come to Norwich Theatre Royal on Monday 5th December. For tickets and more info, go to www.ukuleleorchestra.com
