Bloghaus of Horrors

Saturday night, All Hallows Eve, was hosted by the sensational, local, creative collective known as Bloghaus. We were treated to a night of excellent throwback Indie choons and the most incredible immersive setting. The attention to detail was second to none, they had me smiling all night as I noticed all the cool little touches.

themselves as part of the arrival experience. My friends and I ensured we were suitably dressed for the occasion. I came as an Unsexy Crow, my costume purchased mainly from Beaujangles and Just Essentials for the creepy contact lens (shout out!) I was accompanied by Freddy Kruger and his Day of the Dead Bride, A Sexy Skeleton, Mrs Wallace (post heroine overdose), Dorian Grey and, most terrifying of all, The Proposed Data Centre on Marston Marshes.

Starting off, parked up on St. Benedicts was none other than the actual Ectomobile an incredible converted "Cadillac" complete with all the necessary equipment to find the ghosties! Guests were invited to take pics with the Ghostbusters themselves as part of the arrival experience.  most terrifying of all, The Proposed Data Centre on Marston Marshes.

And to my left: a-fuck-off-massive- as-big-as-the-church glowing, inflatable Stay Puft Marshmallow Man took up residence in the front garden for more epic photo opportunities. Before we had even walked through the door the night already felt full of fun and mischief; perhaps the extra strong, homemade vodka soda limes in our pre-game kitchen party added to the vibes?

These Halloween events have grown in popularity and infamy as their success draws a sold out crowd. It is common knowledge us big kids like to get into costume for Halloween, but this Norwich crowd did not come to mess about when it came to bringing the fancy dress A Game! I was so impressed by the variety, the effort, the detail and the wonderful home-made aspects to so many people's costumes. It felt so fun and genuine rather than an Instagram Reel Poser Party. Everyone looked incredible, but everyone got stuck in, dancing, singing, moshing and partying like it was 2008 all over again!

DJ Russell Betts from Big Indie Disco opened the night, getting the crowd warmed up with some fan favourites, sing along and dance along approved from the get go! The DJ booth consisted of a giant statue of liberty head in all its neon fluorescent glory- to represent New York City, where the Ghostbusters carry out majority of their vital work. We were fortunate enough to welcome the team to Nozza for one night only!

The Bloghaus Haus Band (all in matching Ghostbuster boiler suits) performing for only the 4th time in this formation- hard to believe given the chemistry, charisma and effortless cool they projected. The group itself is a beautiful bunch of best mates with its members joining from some Norwich bands we know and love; Other Half, Pinn, Dog at the Opera, Bag of Cans, Stupid World and The Nuclear Tombs. The set list was nothing short of epic with each track beginning with a chorus of audience cries of "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG!!" The classics such as Parklife and I Predict A Riot are always guaranteed crowd pleasers, but I loved singing to Foals Cassius and dancing my arse off to Bulletproof too!

When the band wrapped up it was time for Bloghaus Clubnight to takeover as they continued on DJing more of the old favourites an classic anthems. We had mosh pits, we had foam glow sticks, we had an enormous hand made Slimer suspended from the ceiling (lovingly handcrafted by Bloghaus' Jonno) we had a pregnancy announcement live on stage from the Father-to-be dressed as a giant baby! Congratulations by the way! The ultimate costume prize had to go to the girl wearing a full replica of one of the Yarmouth Plesaurr Beach Snails. I mean, come on, Norwich, you are literally THE FINEST of cities. And this was our finest Halloween.

Thankyou to Bloghaus, Big Indie Disco, Norfolk Ghostbusters and, of course, Norwich Arts Centre for bringing this all together to celebrate Spooky Season!

Bloghaus Halloween is taking a break next year, back in 2028. If you can't wait til then be sure to look out for their Christmas Party at Deadwax in December, a spring time boat party bonanza and other club nights throughout the calendar year.
