Bryan Adams - Get Up

5/10

Bryan Adams - Get Up

Disclaimer: until Everything I Do, I was probably the most hardcore Bryan Adams fan I knew. This made reviewing his latest offering a worrying proposition.

To kick off, You Belong To Me, a fast paced country rocker, with all the classic Adams attributes; namely, the title of the song repeated ad infinitum. Next up Go Down Rockin', it's a different sound, but still immediately, recognisably Bryan; the title’s repeated more than the last one. I’m realising that Bryan hasn't noticed that you're allowed to grow up in rock music. By Do What You Gotta Do, track 6 of 13, I'm weary of the exaggerated rockin' attitude, although it sounds like he has absorbed other music and broadened his pallet. A bit. With backing vocals and melody reminiscent of The Kids Are Alright with a Canadian rockstar shouting over the top, his single, Brand New Day defines his approach. If you heard his hits from the 1980's, this could be an unreleased version of any of them. But made now, he should know better.

5/10 for production and voice. Paraphrasing Centrefold, “My blood runs cold, my memory has just been sold, Bryan’s made Reckless again, and doesn't think we'll notice”
