Dizraeli @ The Bicycle Shop

Everybody in the room remained transfixed

Dizraeli @ The Bicycle Shop

First things first- did anyone else have NO IDEA there was an incredible music venue, bar and lots of pretty lights in the basement of The Bicycle Shop?! I have frequented that place more times than I care to remember and I had no idea it even existed! Now that I am aware of its existence I think they may struggle to get rid of me; last night was, in the words of Dizraeli, bloody marvellous!

For those of you that have discovered the secret basement will be aware that is the archetypal “intimate space for live music” with its dim and coloured lighting, quirky art work, comfy chairs and a cute little stage. With a sold out show it was somewhat snug (in a we-are-all-united-by-the same-cause way as opposed to a “who-the-hell-is-this-wrong-un-sitting-on-my-hand way) and everybody in the room remained transfixed and in awe of both performers that graced that little stage.

Huge respect for Jacaboski who warmed us all up with the most delectable spoken word I have heard in a very long time! His vocabulary was just so fluid and gorgeous; the words tumbled and swirled from his psychedelic helter-skelter brain- it was quite simply mesmerising. One line of his that resonated with the crowd “Baby’s got a profile before he’s left the womb, how you gunna tell me we’re not doomed?”

Dizraeli began his set with the slightly unconventional ritual of a moment’s silence by candlelight. It was one of those things that I don’t think anyone else (except maybe Beyoncè) could get away with; everybody was instructed to just take stock of who we were, where we were and those we love around us.

All throughout his set Dizraeli remained humble, modest, friendly and hilarious. The atmosphere existed in the juxtaposition of lairy chanting (when the audience had to chant phrases such as FUCKIN’ REBEL! and LETS ALL GET MUDDY AND FUCK!) alongside the euphoric pulling of everyone’s heartstrings when he dedicated a song to his nan from Saxmundham in Norfolk!

With the winning combo of rap, soulful crooning, acoustic guitar, drums, decks, candles, cowbells and bunny ears Dizraeli absolutely killed it last night and I hope he knows how much Norwich loves him! (shit loads)

10/10
