Dog's Dinner - Stalker Thoughts
8/10
Having deservedly attracted attention via the youthful energy of their live performances, Dog's Dinner now deliver this seven track concept EP onto cassette (rummage in the attic for that discarded Sony Walkman!) and download. Recently recorded at Sickroom Studios this provides far more than a simple snapshot of their musical trajectory. Stalker Thoughts illustrates just how far this four piece has developed musically and lyrically in such a short space of time.
After the moody grind of Prologue comes the blinding Moth, an energetic exercise in definitive punk layered with Stone Roses harmonies. Still Sleeping switches to a sensitive and melodic vein, showcasing Josh's impressive vocals before unleashing the thirty second teenage rampage that is Head In My Hands.
Chlorine is the stand-out track, a concentrated cluster-bomb of power-pop that will inevitably send you pogo-ing to the deep end of your own personal pool. Night Drive provides a perfect foil in its search for release and escape, and in so doing resurrects memories of The Drums. The ruminative air of Epilogue brings the entire outing to a satisfying and captivating conclusion.
A glorious seven slice gateau of rock from one of the city's brightest new bands.
