You just can’t beat a good Friday night gig can you now? It’s the end of the working week, rather luckily for most people so there is always a great vibe. It’s the one night of the week where everyone is normally really up for enjoying themselves after a week’s work and as a result it presents us with an opportunity to let the hair down and have a good time and tonight is no exception to that rule.
Outside of the best venue in the city, the pubs seem to be extremely quiet, but in here it’s all happening, there’s a great atmosphere already in the house as the evening kicks off with support from Dread FM and the excellent Rad Pitt.
At just twenty-one years old still, the main act $ebbuku aka one Sebastian Bates is really making his mark, he has been doing the live circuit both locally and around the UK at various venues during the past couple of years (plus) now and has already built up a very loyal and rapidly expanding fan base. His followers of varying age groups are very enthusiastically hitting the dance floor hard as they get straight into his moves and grooves, and from the off the church is absolutely buzzing along in here to see one of Norfolk’s finest of sons.
We get treated to a fifteen-song set list, including, I Miss Paris, Call The Bluff and Don’t Turn Up.
It’s like a hard-edged Jordan Rakei bumping into a raw Slim Shady and a smooth Loyle Carner for a real coming together in downtown Norwich city centre for an electric fusion of influences to all then be welded together and as the temperature starts to rise you can hear the punk, hip hop and soul as he rather cleverly gels the genres to become one.
The band, with $ebbuku on vocals accompanied by a Henrik Larsson obsessed guitarist (Nik Booty) and an excellent drummer in Declan Fearon to boot, each link up rather seamlessly, creating not only a great wall of sound, but also a very intense visual gig experience.
As we exit the venue, the pub over the road is almost punter free with the bouncer out on the street looking pretty bored! But hopefully, he had as good a time as we did when $ebbuku’s vibes and beats were emanating out onto the street.
This dude is a real professional, a supernatural talent, he is both unique and unmistakably brilliant. Wow! What a performer.
You can expect to hear a lot more about him and also from him during the next twelve months you can be sure of that.
Everything is going Jackanory for this turbo charged, self-produced artist, and long may that continue well into the future, it’s most certainly looking very bright that’s for sure.
