Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes

Gallows? Never heard of them mate. Not sure what this ‘Pure Love’ you’re banging on about is either. This review is for Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. Finally Frank Carter has put his own name behind a project -and what a project it is.  Take Beautiful Death , probably one of the most fucking heartbreaking tracks I’ve heard in my life. Frank lets out pained whelps as he describes some great loss in his life, screaming the lyrics like it’s all he can do to keep breathing.  Whereas Slaves, as good as they are, offer a jolly outlook on life, Frank smashes this with volleys of raw emotion – this is punk in its true form.  Although Frank takes centre stage, his Rattlesnakes are always on form too; the drop at the beginning of Devil Inside of Me bringing out literal goosebumps on my skin. On the band’s first EP an acoustic version of Loss was a standout track. That returns here amplified times one thousand. Frank breaks down crying at the end of it, and you can see what this track means to him. Frank thinks this album is his Magnum Opus, and I wouldn’t disagree with him.
